Thanks to a caller who witnessed sea turtle hatchlings struggling in the hot sand as they emerged from a nest in the afternoon heat, 95 green sea turtle hatchlings were rescued by our conservation team. Our Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, Lefty, loves his scratching ledge! This ledge is an example of one type of enrichment that our resident sea turtles receive at Gumbo Limbo. Enrichment devices allow sea turtles in captivity to engage in behaviors that they typically would exhibit in the wild, keeping their mind and muscles active.
