Microsoft Corp. is forming a new engineering group that will be led by Jay Parikh, a former Meta Platforms Inc. executive who joined the company last year. Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella announced the move today in a note to employees.

Microsoft is creating a new engineering division, led by the former global head of engineering at Facebook (now Meta), that will be responsible for building fundamental AI technologies and tools for the company.

Microsoft appointed Jay Parikh, a former Meta executive in charge of infrastructure, as its executive vice president for the new artificial intelligence engineering division.

The Redmond-headquartered company has been retooling its AI divisions over the past year, hiring former Inflection CEO Mustafa Suleyman to head Microsoft AI, which oversees the company’s AI-powered Copilot organization and other consumer products. Former Inflection chief scientist Karén Simonyan also left the startup for Microsoft.
