It's out with the old, as Dell ushers in a new naming scheme for its wares, with just Dell, Dell Pro, and Dell Pro Max taking over.

This rework marks a major shakeup for Dell's PC naming schema, which has used the Inspiron, XPS, Latitude, and Precision monikers since the 1990s. In consolidating its branding, Dell hopes to make it easier for consumers to figure out which device will best match their needs, streamlining the oft-complicated experience of buying a PC.

LAS VEGAS, NV — Just ahead of the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the company said decades-old names for PCs such as XPS and Inspiron are going away. A more simplified branding approach will be taking their place featuring three tiers: Dell, Dell Pro, and Dell Pro Max.

Dell laptops are being split into three categories: Dell, Dell Pro, and Dell Pro Max. Dell laptops are meant for work and play. Dell Pro is designed for “professional-grade productivity,” while the Dell Pro Max is about high-end performance.

So it comes as a something of a surprise that Dell's rebranded laptop line up sounds quite so, well, Apple-esque. The company is killing off some of its most famous PC branding, including the XPS and Inspirion names (some of which are among our best laptops for CAD).
