Josh Stein is the governor of North Carolina, pledging his oath on Wednesday morning alongside his wife Anna. Stein, 58, succeeds 67-year-old Roy Cooper and continues the pattern of all but three men holding the position being Democrats since 1900.

The New Year means newly-elected state leaders have officially taken office. During his swearing-in ceremony in Raleigh on Wednesday morning, Governor Josh Stein said that he would reject politics of division and that North Carolina will go further when the state works together.

Stein has been the attorney general for the past eight years, following Cooper in the elected law-enforcement post that Cooper himself had held for the 16 years previous.

Stein announced an executive order to temporarily waive federal limits on the amount of time drivers transporting propane and other heating fuels can be on the road.

Stein was sworn in on Jan. 1, taking the reins from Roy Cooper after defeating Mark Robinson in the November election.
