A South Carolina woman faces charges after igniting yard debris that burned out of control and allegedly sparked a wildfire that has scorched more than 2,000 acres near Myrtle Beach, the state’s forestry officials said.

A woman accused of igniting a more than 2,000 acre wildfire last week in South Carolina, threatening the lives and homes of hundreds, has been arrested and charged, officials said on Friday.

In South Carolina, 175 wildfires burned across the state, scorching over 4,200 acres of land and straining firefighting resources, according to the state fire marshal's office. Response operations were ongoing in various areas, including Horry, Spartanburg, Union, Oconee, and Pickens counties.

A week after a woman allegedly ignited a wildfire that burned thousands of acres in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the Florida Forest Service Incident Management Team (IMT) has taken over.

The woman allegedly started a fire to burn debris Saturday in a backyard fire pit close to a tree line in the Covington Lakes community.
