Jrue Holiday reminded The Celtics of his importance
The 46-18 Celtics entered Monday eight games back of the Cleveland Cavaliers for the top spot in the East, a gap they’re unlikely to close with just 18 games remaining. Boston also held a comfortable 5 1/2-game lead on the third-place New York Knicks.
With 21 games left, the Celtics need to concentrate on holding off the Knicks for the second seed. New York’s rally and overtime win over the Heat on Sunday kept them within 2½ games. The two teams meet once more in New York on April 8, and the path to the second seed means taking care of business against the lesser teams.
The Boston Celtics beat the Denver Nuggets Sunday 110-103 while missing two starters, Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis. While Porzingis (who has played in 32 of the Celtics ’ 61 games thus far) continues to miss time due to an illness, Holiday has a more complex scenario.
