With LED spacing of around 1cm in a backlight array, Sony claims, even a 100micrometer variation in the size of each RGB chip can only make about a 1% difference – which Sony maintains (and which seemed to be borne out in side by side tests) isn’t enough to have any meaningful impact on picture quality.

This year at CES 2026 everybody was pretty confused about the new "Micro RGB" and "RGB Mini LED" TVs that use similar technology but carry different names. Now, Sony has come up with another label for its own Mini LED TVs with RGB backlighting: True RGB.
