The Department of Statistics (DoS) on Wednesday reported a 2.29 per cent year-on-year increase in the general consumer price index (inflation) for January, with the index rising from 109.72 points in January 2024 to 112.

Inflation heated up more than expected in January, as prices for groceries, housing and energy all rose for Americans in early 2025, complicating President Donald Trump’s agenda.

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 0.5% on a seasonally adjusted basis in January, after rising 0.4% in December, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.
