A total of 130 suspected patients and 2 suspected deaths of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) have been found in Maharashtra so far, the fresh data released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme Public Health Department in Pune on the ongoing outbreak in the state's several pockets showed.

The total number of suspected Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases in Maharashtra has risen to 127, with 72 confirmed cases, the state’s Public Health Department announced on Wednesday (29 January), as reported by ANI.

In response to increasing Guillain-Barre Syndrome cases in Pune, Maharashtra health officials, under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's directive, are formulating a Standard Operating Procedure. An investigation traced the outbreak to contaminated water in Nanded.

A 41-year-old chartered accountant from Pune has become the first confirmed casualty of the Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) outbreak in the city, with cases rising to 111 in just under three weeks.
