North Texas experienced its first winter storm of the year last week, when snow and wintry precipitation fell across the region. Over the 24-hour period on Jan. 9 and 10, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport recorded 2.6 inches of show, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth.

Ice and snow are accumulating on bridges and overpasses of major highways, according to TxDOT. Motorists should drive with caution and expect traffic delays.

Ray predicts 2 to 5 inches of snow could fall for parts of the Metroplex. Up to 8 inches is forecasted to fall in counties closer to the Red River. "Not all of this will stick at first but expect our first accumulating snow in almost a year," Ray said.

An arctic front will bring cold temperatures to Fort Worth this weekend. The National Weather Service Fort Worth is tracking the front that is likely to arrive in the region by late Friday, Jan. 17, into early Saturday, Jan. 18. A quick batch of showers may accompany the front, but rainfall totals are likely to be low.

The current weather pattern in central North Carolina keeps the frigid air around through the end of January, giving us a higher chance of getting a weather system to bring us winter precipitation.

Arctic blast number two will arrive early Saturday morning and it will stay cold through the middle of next week. There is a chance for more wintry precipitation next week.
